Don Quixoteには、ちょっと誇らしいエピソードがあります。
1985年の2月、ドッグランズでのPV撮影を終えて、ホテルに戻ると、
「Miles Davis氏から電話あり。折り返し電話されたし。」
とのメッセージが残っていました。
メモをじーーっと見て、疲れた頭で考えましたが、
世界のマイルスが俺なんかのこと知っているはずない。。。。
「いや、こんなドッキリに騙されるほど、俺はバカじゃない。」
と、無視することに決定。
その後、ポール・ヤングとアメリカのツアー中、
ニューヨークにマイルスが現れました。
ですが、その有色人種米語特有の喋りにより、言っていることは、ほとんど理解不能。
分かったとしても、未だに、この世界のマイルスが、ほとんど無名の自分と仕事をしたいということが信じられない。
ということで、何も分からぬままその場を後にしました。
マイルスが亡くなってから数年後、マイルスがジャズでDon Quixoteを演奏していたことを発見！
やっと、マイルスが本気でNikの音楽を褒めていたんだということを信じることができたのでした。
だから、この曲はちょっと凄い曲なんだよ、えっへん。

But here is the story regarding to Don Quixote...
In February 1985, when he was back to a hotel after shooting PV in Docklands, there was a message left from Miles Davis
apparently asking Nik to call him....
But
, Nik couldn't believe that a music legend like Miles Davies could
really want to speak to the unknown Nik Kershaw so he never returned the
call.
Two
months later Nik was touring USA with Paul Young. Miles Davis spoke to Nik after a gig in NY.
But Nik was
i)
puzzled by his American accent and phrases and
ii) still couldn't believe
that Miles wanted to do some work with him.
Some years later (after Miles had died) he
discovered that Miles had worked on a jazzed up version of Don Quixote!
So
finally he believed that maybe Miles Davis really had been impressed by his
music after all...
