Oginoya, famous for the popular ekiben (station lunch box), kama-meshi (kama means a pot and meshi means rice, so it is a rice dish cooked in a pot with simmered vegetables on top), has a restaurant in the Takasaki station building.
I had the kamameshi set (Kamameshi is left down corner in the photo above). The kamameshi was delicious of course, but the side dish, roast beef with radish sauce (up in the middle) was surprisingly good as well and it matched the kamameshi rice very well. A simple, good and old taste.
It says in Japanese "a limited Summer lunch box from Gunma - It is filled with Gunma's tasteful specialties, the taste of your old home town-".
Eating the ekiben lunch box filled with local specialties is one thing I look forward to when I go on a trip by the shinkansen bullet train. The lunchboxes we had on the way back were from Oginoya too.
I didn't know kama-meshi lunch boxes were originally from Gunma!
