Hi!
I read a book called "Experiment Happiness",
which is filled with fascinating researches
conducted by psychologists over the years.
What's especially interesting for me was
the 6th chapter, "the process of our
happiness self-assessment".
A number of people were divided into
3 groups, and for 9 weeks, each group
was asked to record different things,
1) what they felt greatful for
2) what they felt was troublesome
3) what happened.
Here is the psychological result.
The group that felt most satisfied
and was in good health was the group
that recorded what they felt greatful for.
Also, a group that recorded what good
they did to others versus a group that did
nothing, when these two groups were compared,
the first group felt more happiness.
In contrast, the book tells us that
compared to happy people, people who
felt less happiness tend to compare
themselves with others and have low self esteem.
From this, I thought I want to live my life
comparing myself from yesterday, instead of
comparing myself with another person.
Also, it reminded me of "repaying kindness"
which was one of the themes of the movie
"Always: Sanchome no Yuhi (Sunset on Third
Street)" I saw the other day.
I want to be able to repay the kindness
people give me each day.
