アジアの犬肉産業の実態を潜入調査・記録し、食肉処理施設の閉鎖、犬の救出などに加え、ハリウッドスターを起用した啓発や米議会で産業の残酷さを訴えるなど多岐にわたり活動を続ける活動家、マーク・チンさん。
先週、韓国・釜山最大のグポ犬肉市場の運営業者と話し合いの場を持ち、食肉処理施設の閉鎖で合意に達したことをお伝えしました。

次にマークさんは中国に移動し、自身の団体「The Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation」と地元活動家たちとの連携による「動物福祉プログラム」をスタートさせました。

犬肉産業の撲滅に向けて、中国内から変化を起こしていくことが必要と感じているマークさんは、中国の活動家たちと会い、動物福祉の問題や現状を変えていくために必要なことなどを話し合いました。
そして多額の財産を費やして犬の保護活動を行うワン・ヤンさんと連携し、食肉処理施設の閉鎖や業者からの犬の救出、飼い犬にマイクロチップを無料で装着するプログラムなどを実施することになりました。

現地では早速、長春にある食肉処理施設を閉鎖、300匹以上の犬を救い出しました。
また、飼い犬にマイクロチップを無料で装着するプログラムもスタート。
犬肉産業の犠牲となっている犬の多くが盗まれたペットであることから、産業の盛んな地域で、100,000～150,000匹を目安にできる限り多くの飼い犬にマイクロチップを無料で埋め込み、地元行政と連携してデータベースを構築、市民の飼い犬を守ろうというわけです。

チップの埋込まれた犬が発見されればすぐ行政に通報。トラックは押収され、業者は逮捕または最低でも窃盗罪で罰金。犬は飼い主の元に帰ることができる
という構図で、最終的にはこうした情報を収集、政府・行政に提出し、市民の財産であるペットを守るために犬肉取り引きを禁止するよう促すことが目的です。

そして、こちらがマイクロチップ装着第一号のワンちゃん。
愛犬をとても大切にしているという飼い主さんも喜んでいます。
"AHWF Animal Welfare Program Launches in China" If it will yield the results we hope and believe, one can only pray. But today we launched our Animal Welfare Program in mainland China. Our foundation will be microchipping 100,000 to 150,000 pets for free in dog meat active cities, working with local government to create a database that aims to protect people's pets. But also, in the case that they are stolen, to reunite them with their families. Why this initiative is important? Because in China most of the dogs pushed into the meat trade are stolen. The microchipping of people's pets, it will allow us to pass out scanning devices to activist who stop trucks. As microchipped dogs are found, authorities will be called, trucks seized, dogs reunited with their families, with the hopes that the driver is arrested or at least fined for possession of stolen property. Just as in the United States, laws are in place to protect the property of their citizens. As stolen dogs are recorded and reunification made, we will use this documentation to present our case to the government, that the trade should banned in order to protect their citizen's property. Exact details of our program with be posted on our website, as well as our pipeline map that highlights the central dog meat vein and are target cities.
