Beijing: A preparatory course for referees who will officiate at the AFC U-14 Regional Festival of Football for the East zone is now underway in Beijing, China.
Seventeen young referees from eight Member Associations – hosts China PR, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea Republic and Mongolia – are taking part in the course.
The course’s opening ceremony was held at the National Football Training Centre (NFTC) in Xianghe, which was attended by NFTC Manager Wang Lingmin and representative from the Chinese Football Association Referees Department Mao He Ming.
AFC Referees Instructor Srivinasan Suresh from India ensured the participants that the instructors were ready to help the participants develop and that plenty of opportunities would be provided for them to learn not only refereeing skills but also interpersonal skills.
AFC Festival Manager Dr. Shamil K. Mohammed told the participants that they were the solid foundation to refereeing in the future in their own country and Asia and reminded the referees that they must master the process from the early stage of learning to be at the elite level.
He gave an example of Iranian Alireza Faghani, the first Asian referee to officiate the final of a Men's Olympic Football Tournament during the recently concluded Rio 2016, to inspire the young referees to set their target higher and achieve their goals.
Suresh and fellow AFC Referees Instructor Hiroshima Yoshikazu of Japan delivered the course which will run until September 4.
