Nishikori joins last 4 of ATP World Tour Finals

Japan's tennis star Kei Nishikori has become one of the last 4 players of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
Nishikori is ranked 5th in the world and finished the first round of the tournament with 2 wins and one loss. He beat David Ferrer of Spain 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in his last Group B round-robin match on Thursday.
Ferrer had replaced Canada's Milos Raonic, who pulled out of the championship because of a thigh injury.
Nishikori lost the opening set due to a string of unforced errors. But in the second set, he broke Ferrer's service game and kept the lead. Then Nishikori dominated the third set with his accurate forehand and sharp backhand ground strokes.
Whether Nishikori could make it to the semi-finals depended on the outcome of another Group B match between Roger Federer of Switzerland and Andy Murray of Britain.
Federer won the first 2 sets, ensuring his top spot and Nishikori's second place in the group.
The ATP World Tour Finals feature the top 8 singles players and doubles teams in the world rankings.

ATP World Tour Finalsは、テニスの世界ランキング上位8人にだけ参加資格がある試合で、round-robin方式というのは、いわゆる「総当たり戦」です。
4人のグループが2つあり、その中からそれぞれのグループの上位2人が決勝トーナメントに進みます。
結果がランキング通りにならない場合が多いのも面白い所で、今回錦織は世界ランキング5位ですが、決勝トーナメントに進みました
そもそも日本人がテニスで世界ランク5位なんて私の現役時代には考えられませんでした。
一体どんな高い所まで行ってくれるのか楽しみです
