【ヘリパッド建設に対するアメリカ大統領への公開書簡提出の緊急アクション

沢山の皆様に賛同をいただきまして準備を進めて参りましたが、記者会見をする運びとなりました。

お知り合いの記者さんにお伝えいただけると嬉しいです。
私たちは、日本の南に位置する沖縄県の北部にあるやんばるの森を壊して強行されている、沖縄県国頭村と東村にまたがる米軍北部訓練場でのヘリパッド建設（北部訓練場ヘリコプター着陸帯移設工事）に反対するとともに、日米両政府にこの建設からの早期撤退を求める市民を代表して、アメリカ合衆国大統領をはじめとするアメリカ政府とアメリカ市民に、緊急性を要するこのヘリパッド建設の中止に向けた強い関心と同意を求める公開書簡をアメリカ合衆国大統領に送ります。
この公開書簡には国会議員や学者、文化人など多岐にわたって賛同を募り、賛同人は100人27団体を超えました。下記に予定される記者会見にて、この公開書簡と賛同者を発表します。またオブザーバーとして、賛同者の中から現役の国会議員の同席を予定しています。

Open letter to President Obama opposing Okinawa helipad construction
Language: The speech and Q & A will be in Japanese with English interpretation
The construction of helipads in the US Marine Corps northern training area in Kunigami village and Higashi village in Okinawa has highlighted the burden the island continues to bear in hosting US military forces based in Japan.
As local residents continue to oppose the helipads, pressure groups are urging the governments of the US and Japan to abandon the project.
They say the helipads will bring greater disruption to the lives of local people and result in the destruction of sections of Yanbaru forest, a national park covering large parts of northern Okinawa.
In an open letter, campaigners have urged President Obama to cancel construction work. The letter has been endorsed by more than 100 prominent people in Japan, including members of the Diet, scholars, celebrities, and 23 organisations.
Hiroko Mizuguchi lives in Uchinada, Ishikawa prefecture, the scene of a campaign opposing military base construction in the 1950s. Kanna Mitsuta is board of director for Friends of the Earth International Japan (FoE), and Akino Miyagi is a butterfly researcher who lives in Okinawa.
