今回のルモンド紙のインタビューでゴルバチョフ氏は、「私の人生は、チェルノブイリの前と後に分かれる」と述べ、「チェルノブイリ」が転換点であったことを指摘するとともに、「チェルノブイリ」の事故で、たった「１機の原子炉の石棺」に、「１４０億ルーブル」もの巨費を投入せざるを得なかった事実を明らかにした。 「フクイチ」は原子炉だけで３機、それに４つの核燃プールがプラスされるため、後始末にかかる費用が空前のものになることを示唆する発言だが、実はゴルバチョフ氏は２００６年４月の「チェルノブイリ」２０周年の際、旧ソ連の崩壊の真の原因はペレストロイカではなく「チェルノブイリ」だと告白していた。

ゴルバチョフ氏 「国際環境裁判所」の創設を！
ゴルバチョフは「フクシマ」原子力災害１周年を迎えた１２日、フランスのマルセイユでルモンド紙のインタビューに応じ、「国際環境裁判所」の創設を提言した。
国際司法裁判所は「環境犯罪」が対象で、とくに企業のトップや国家指導者たちを裁く。
つまり、ゴルバチョフ氏は、「フクイチ」事故が、巨大な地球環境汚染であるとともに、日本の国家崩壊を招きかねない重大な事故であることも併せて示唆しているわけである。
ゴルバチョフ氏はまた、核軍備の廃絶とともに核の民生利用（原発）の廃止を選んだ国民を支持すると述べ、「脱原発」の姿勢を明確化した。
