・・・まぁ、怪しいページに思えるけど、しばし耳を貸してくれ。
結成から今日まで40年以上に渡り、絶対に解散しない、
人類最強のロック・バンド、ザ・ローリング・ストーンズ。
そのメンバー最年長のチャーリー・ワッツ notes 。
先日、渋谷陽一氏の誇る日本のスーパー・ロック雑誌『ロッキング・オン』最新号（2005年10月号）。
その巻頭を飾る、キース・リチャーズ独占インタヴューの記事中、
ワッツさん、今回のニューアルバム、レコーディング前から
肺癌の疑いを持たれ、治療中にいたことが克明に語られている。（newCDのライナーより詳しい）
これは、俺ばかりでなく、多くのストーンズ・ファンの背筋を凍らせる内容・・・と思う。
途中下車の人達を除いて、これまでずっと長い間、解散もせず、
世界のロック・ファンの期待を裏切ることなく、
みんなの期待を何百倍も上回るほどの功績を築きあげてきた
キース、ミック、ロニー、そして、チャーリー・ワッツ。
俺の中では、この四人組が、一人でも欠けてしまうことは有りえないし、
考えたくもない。
四人揃って、幾つかオマケがいて、それでパーフェクトの状態だ。
で、四人とも、俺の父親と同じ世代で、年齢が年齢なんだから、
どこか肉体に支障があっても不思議ではない・・・
と云えばそれまでかも知れない。
どんな人間もいつかは死ぬし、老化もする。
いつまでも張りのある筋肉で若さを保ち、
声も体力も70年代、80年代のままという訳にはいかない。
そうと判っていても、不滅のストーンズだけは、
死ぬまで四人一緒でステージの上にいてほしい。
こんな云い方は失礼だけど、死ぬ時もスパッと、
全員一緒に消えてなくなってもらいたい。
・・・本当のストーンズ・ファンなら、この意味も判ってもらえると思う。（？）
それ以外のファンの人には
「縁起でもない」と思われるかも知れないけど、
ストーンズってのは、俺の中ではそういうもんで（どういうもんだ?!）、
一人、また一人と、パラパラと亡くなって逝くような、
そんな、ありがちな哀しい道には転がってほしくない。
で、
英語にも一人一人の話し方によって違いがあるし、
”キース語”が現代日本人の若者に合わせた日本語訳で、
原稿を書く人も、それなりに気合を入れて
今のキース・リチャーズの”生の言葉”を忠実に再現してる・と思うけど、
その限られた範囲で、
キース・リチャーズの、そのインタヴュー記事から察するところ、
現在のチャーリー・ワッツの体の具合は、一応、大丈夫らしい。
それでも、ここ数年、他のメンバーも、
その超人的な肉体に今までになく色々と支障を生じていた事実を考えると、
今回のチャーリー・ワッツの肺に関する問題は、
どうしても気になる。
世間では、咽頭癌の治療で伏っていたとかの騒ぎになってる
けど、
キースの話にある「肺癌」って言葉が微妙に・・・ひっかかる。
咽頭ってのは喉だ。つまり肺に繋がる気管も通ってる。
必ずしも、その部分にある悪い細胞が肺に移るってことは
ないとも言い切れないし、
人間の身体は部品の組み合わせじゃねぇから、
その確立は低くない。
もし本当に「肺癌の疑いがある」ってことなら、
問題は、どうして、肺がおかしくなっちまったか・・・ってことだ。
他のロック・アーティストの多くのドラマーとは違い、 ・・・う～ん、この写真は左手が見えにくい
チャーリー・ワッツのドラム・スティックの持ち方が、
ジャズ奏法から来ている
ことは、知っているファンの人も多いと思うけど。
問題はそこにある・と、俺は思う。
ドラムを叩いてる友人にも何本かライヴ・ビデオを見てもらって
それを訊いてみたところ、
あの、ひっくり返しの持ち方（特に左手）で、
ハイハットとスネアを叩いて、あれだけ抜ける デカイ音を出すには、
腕の筋肉に相当の負担がかかるらしい。
しかも、ツアーは常にロングの過密スケジュール。
そのロードワークをあの年齢でこなすパワーは凄まじいし、
日本のオヤジ連中も少しは見習った方がいい。
で、そんな話はどうでもよくって、
ちょっとこの図を見てほしい。

これは、人間の手の親指が腕の筋肉を伝わって
どのように肺と関連しているかを表した図（人体経絡【じんたいけいりゃく】）だ。
両手の親指の爪の生え際からはじまって、
手首、肘の内側、二の腕の内側、鎖骨の側を通って、
喉（咽頭）の筋肉にも関連している。
しかも、肺だけじゃなくて大腸にも
気と血が流れる路線として繋がっている。
そのうちで、手の平の親指の腹に魚際【ぎょさい】って場所ある。
その場所を拡大すると、ここがソレ。赤いとこ。

これは俺の子供の手形だけど、人間には変わりない。
要するに、簡単に云うと、
何かを握ったり摘んだりしながら、
極端に腕に負担をかけると、
この部分が痛くなったり、つれてきたりする。
例えば、学校の先生が短いチョークを持って、
黒板にズラズラと数式や文字を書き綴ったり、
トラックの運転手で長時間、ハンドルを握っていたり、
まぁ、それは”職業病”ってことでもないんだけど、
チャーリー・ワッツの場合も、40年以上 ドラムを叩いてる上で、
手のこの部分に何らかの違和感を感じてたはずだ・・・と思われる。
で、それは、
その筋肉に流れる血液の循環の問題で、
例えば、故 イアン・デューリー氏が、かつて小林克也さんのテレビ番組、
”ベストヒットUSA”に出演してた際、
クラブ・ギグとかライヴで歌ってると、
自分の右手首内側（の手首の関節よりちょっと肘寄り）の筋肉に、
痛みを感じると云ってた。
「どこ？」
克也さんが質問すると、
「ここんとこだ」って、画面で指し示して、
「きっとココは何か声を出すことに関係してる。
人間の体にはそういう未知の部分がいっぱいある」
とか云ってた。
こんなこと覚えてるのは俺ぐらいだろうけど、
（克也さんなら覚えてると思う。きっと。）
で、要は、最初の図を見ても判る通り、
そこがやっぱり、人間の呼吸。肺と関係してて、
画像では文字が見にくいけど、太淵【たいえん】ていう経穴【ツボ】の名前がある。
イアン・デューリーの場合は、もともと、かなりハンディを抱えた状態だったから、
他にも色々と肉体的に問題があったと思うけど、
要するに、歌って呼吸が激しくなると、そこに、
「今、お前の肺は ちょっとキテルぜ・・・」
ってことで、身体の中からの何らかのお知らせが、そこに出てきてたってことだ。
とにかく、人間の腕の筋肉と肺の関係ってのは、そういうことになってる。
ご存知の通り、チャーリー・ワッツも世の中の”流行りモノ”とは無縁で、
60～70年代のドラッグ・ムーブメントに外れて、
80年代にスマートに（？）ドラッグをやった以外は健常な人なんだけど、
ドラムを叩く仕事柄、手首のスナップさばきはハンパじゃない。
だから なお更、腕の筋肉に負担もかかってたと思うし、
今の年齢になってドラマーを続けていることに、
いくらか身体が追いついて来なくなってきてるんじゃないかって思う。
んで、そういう肺と関係してる腕の筋肉の血液の循環を促すと、
肺の機能に治癒力が活性化してくる。（かなり簡単に云ってるけどな。）
・・・・・自分の身内でもねぇから、そこまで心配する必要もねぇし、
こんなとこで ウダウダ云ってても何もなんねぇだろうけど・・・。
もしも、・・・もしもだ。
これも余計なお世話かも知れないけど、
誰かこのことを越谷さんに伝えて、そのルートでエージェントを通して、
いつか近いうち、チャーリー・ワッツ本人が、なんとかして
マトモな”東洋医学の権威”を見つけ出して、
これ以上、肺の問題が跡を引き摺らないように考えてもらえれば・・・とも思う。
もしも、ほんとうに肺癌なんてことになると、
人間、”臓”の部分に癌ができると、これほど厄介なモノはない。
喰ったり飲んだりするモンが出たり入ったりする大腸とか胃であれば、
癌も癌としての治療は軽くて済む。
だけど血液が凄いスピードで循環してる肺や肝臓、腎臓とかに
クセモノが触手を伸ばすと、その治療も一回や二回じゃ済まない。
闘病にも かなりの体力を使うことになる。
日本の癌治療に比べ、海外の方が抗がん剤の取り扱いや
放射線治療の技術も進んでるらしいし、海外には他にも色んな薬もあると思う。
（日本は抗がん剤も選べない現状・・・。
製薬会社と病院の方針で決めてる限られた方法で手を尽くせば死ぬ。
ところが、”人間の寿命”と病気で死ぬことは まったく違うことを日本人は判ってない)
けど、問題は、西洋医学ってヤツが、
どこまで人間の体の創られ方を理解して人間の病に対処してるのか。
俺はこの20年間、ストーンズを聴きながら、
そういう分野を探って来た。
それでも、日本の鍼灸なんて、今はもう、あんまり当てになんねぇみてぇだから、
鍼と灸が元祖で今も頑張ってる中国の山奥（？）とか、
ドイツでは東洋医学の研究も色々と進められてる。
むしろ、訊いてみるなら そっちの方が言葉が通じて、話が早いだろうし、
60億人もいる地球上には、
人間の身体をトータルで診て治すマトモな医者は
一人か二人はいると思う。
Virgin 元締めの、リチャード・ブランソン社長だって、いっぱしの財団だ。
ストーンズのメンバーだってカネには困ってない。
そんなの捜すのは一般ピープルより簡単だと思う。
あの四人だけには、そういう本物の、正しい医学とつき合ってもらいたい。
で、話は前後するけど、
そのジャズ・スタイルのドラム奏法は、本人が気に入っていて
ずっと愛用してきたというより、それがイチバン自分に合ってて、
本人の自由にやってることだから、もう変えるわけにはいかないし、
きっと、チャーリー・ワッツもそのスタイルはやめないと思う。

やめたらキースとの絡みが崩れるし、
俺としても困る。
ストーンズの音は、その辺の人が クタバルような病気なんかで変わってほしくない。

最初にも云った通り、四人が四人揃っててパーフェクトなんだから、
時々、オマケ（ダリルとかWASとか）が付いても、それ以下はもうない。
本当は、ワイマンとかにも戻ってほしいけど。
単独で転がるってのは、ストーンズにおいて反則だ。
ソロで演っても必ず、同じステージに戻ってこなきゃ、キースも睨む。
当然だ。
で、ゴタゴタと書いてきた中で、今日の一曲。
イントロも印象的でストーンズ特有の３分40秒代のまとまり方の一曲。
途中で一旦とまって、ドラムではじまるセンスは・・・日本人にはねぇな。やっぱり。

ちなみに、”A Bigger Bang ”は、ジャケットはキースのデザイン画で、
『 Cross Aide Hard 』ってタイトルになるはずだったらしい。
