『プラダを着た悪魔』のモデルと言われる米版ヴォーグの編集長、アナ・ウィンター（Anna Wintour）を追ったドキュメンタリー映画がついに１１月、日本公開される。
アナといえば泣く子も黙るファッション界の女王。アメリカ女性の約１０人に１人、１,３００万人が読むというファッション雑誌の編集長であり、３,０００億ドルという地球規模のファッション産業でもっとも重要な人物と言われている。彼女の容赦ない発言と冷酷な仕事ぶりは、トレードマークのボブカットにたとえて「ドレスを着たダース・ベーダー」などとあだ名されるほど。この作品では、年に一度の特大号である９月号を制作中のヴォーグ編集部内に潜入し、妥協を許さないアナの仕事ぶりをリアルに垣間見ることができる。
監督のR.J.カトラーはこれまでにエミー賞を受賞し、アカデミー賞にもノミネートされた経験を持つ実力派。そんな彼がヴォーグ側と約９ヶ月にわたって契約交渉し、準備に１年、撮影に約９ヶ月をかけたという本作は、ファッション界にとっても異例の試みとなっている。
アナのためだけに行われるイヴ・サンローランの新作プレゼン、新進デザイナー・タクーンのデザインチェック、マリオ・テスティーノの表紙撮影など、今まで見られなかったモードの裏側が次々と映し出される。またアナの娘ビー・ジェイファーや、アナの２０年来の戦友であるクリエイティブ・ディレクターのグレイス・コディントンのインタビューなども見逃せないハイライトといえよう。
世界中の女性の夢であるファッション業界も、現実にはこんなに過酷なのかと多くの人は驚くだろう。それでもアナを中心とする編集部スタッフたちの奮闘ぶりは眩しく、その厳しさと真剣さには「ファッション命」の人でなくとも、きっと心打たれるに違いない。
