Although I no longer work as an architect and haven't for the past 6 years, I still work in teams as a CAD Operator and so am involved in many projects, some which eventually get built, like the above in Kyoto.

Going corporate allows me to go home after 7 hours 40 min, sick day benefits, 20 day paid vacation and proper overtime pay, not bad for a native job in Japan. Still earning more than a project architect at Sou Fujimoto at much shorter hours, so if your goals are no longer compatible with your job, it makes all the sense in the world to pull out of the rat race. Plenty of new recruits to fill my spot, anyway.

Shout-out to Yamaha, Iki and Shimizu who actually did the hard work of design on this building.
