今朝、駅の改札でいつも通り定期券をかざして入ろうとしたら、引っかかりました。定期券を更新してなくて期限切れであることを思い出しました。
自力の英作

・時制の整理（過去完了形）: it had expired
原文の it was expired でも口語では通じますが、「改札で引っかかった（過去）」よりも前に「期限が切れていた（さらに過去）」 という時間の順番を表すため、had expired（過去完了形）を使うとより正確でキレイな文になります。
・「更新していない」の表現:
because I forgot to renew it / didn't renew it
原文の have not renewed it（現在完了形）は、全体が過去の話（This morning〜）なので、過去形（didn't renew it）か「更新し忘れていた（forgot to renew it）」と表現するのがとてもスムーズです。

「かざして入ろうとした」の「かざす」は、ICカードなどをピッとかざす動作を表す scan を使うと非常に自然で、現代の交通事情にぴったりの表現になります。
