1 week in KYOTO

after the 3.11 quake-

PRIORITIES FIRST:

family and close friendsで

落ち着かない気持ちのまま、

KYOTOに出かけてきました。

so serene, peace, calm, plentiful-

NO SIGN of PANIC, THREAT, SCARCITY.

二泊予定していたのを、

１週間に延長。

なんだかKYOTOがSURREALでした。

the pain and destruction left by the 9.1scale quakeが

the same country,

the same time zone,

the same peopleに

おきたrealityが信じられないくらい　

京都は平凡。

恐ろしい現実はニュースでしか 感じることなかったです。

no blackouts, abundance of taxis,

people bustling in the streets and cafes,

the supermarkets fully stocked,

plenty of flashlights, batteries, toilet paper, water, etc

It was almost creepy how unaware/unaffected this city was...

観光とか普通にしてる人とか。。！！！

スケジュールなしで　動く日々ってユリにとっては

とっても違和感があるものでしたが、

とにかくmonitor the situationという意味で、

evacuating to 京都はgood decisionだったと思います。

It's a few hundred km further down south from TOKYO

which puts us 600km away from the Fukushima nuke plants-

a complicated and still unresolved THREAT.

no aftershocks (just one I felt in the whole week) in KYOTO!!

落ち着ける環境で、

今があること、

how fortunate we are to face our everyday lives,

the importance of not taking things for granted,

いろいろと再確認する毎日をすごしてました。

ユリーカの外人friends/expatsは９９%
that weekendにJapanを出ました。

７５％はまだ, 東京に帰ってきてないです。

インターキッズはユリみたいに様子を見ると言うことで

京都や大阪へ。

ホテルオークラで知り合い３組も　バッタリ、ビックリ!!
今は、ほとんどみんな、東京に戻ってきて、

日常に感謝しながらback to work and helping out in charity.

驚くことに、my Japanese friendsは
ほとんどstayed in Tokyo！！

余震やストレスで体調が不安定になる方も。。。

でも、東京を離れなかったみたい。。。

なんだか、東京を離れたら意味不明に避難されたり、

over reacting and foreign pressが

over sensationalizing the situation、

外人や大使館の行動はオオゲサとか

思った方もいたようですが　（TVで聞いたコメント）、

this quake was historically MASSIVE.

logistics and mobiltyがあれば、

不安なsituationから逃げるのはtotally the right thing to do。

それこそfamilyがいるアメリカやヨーロッパに戻るのは

当然です。

British, French, Italian embassy のメールを読んだら、
of course- 必要がなければjapanを離れなさい。と言う内容。

インターナショナルスクールは四月までクローズを発表。
やはり外人さんがgo back to their families and evacuate an unstable japan is LOGICAL,

not over reacting.

majority of finance people はhongkongに移動し、
香港のオフィスから仕事を開始したり、

とにかくすぐに、
relocating to somewhere safe and stable。

makes perfect sense.

悲しみ、痛みの中, still humble, composed, respectful of eachother.,

被災地の人々の存在はHUGE.

The world has so much to learn from them.
