Ikura and Tara are not afraid of the stuffed budgie.
His name is Umihei.
イクラもタラも、インコのぬいぐるみを怖がりません。
このインコちゃんの名前は海平です。

イクラの前にひれ伏すタラ。
Last Saturday I took Ikura and Tara to the bird training class for the first time.
I’ve attended seminars on bird behaviour by the same teacher since last year, and I always wanted to attend her lesson with Ikura and Tara.
Well, it was the first time for them to go out, except for going to an avian clinic.
Actually I got new carry cages for this occasion, so everything was new for them!
I think it would be better to use the cages your birds get used to for such occasions, so that they don’t need to feel unnecessary stress.
Why do I attend the training class?
The main reason is to socialise Ikura and Tara.
I want them to feel comfortable and relax anywhere they go.
I want them to be friendly to other people and birds.
They might have to spend some time with other people, or they might have to find a new family, if something happened to me.
On such an occasion, I want them to be happy, not feel lonely nor stress.
I want them to be happy with anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Of course, I always take care of my health, because I’m the one who have got a responsibility for my budgies, but it’s very important to socialise your birds and be prepared for any situations.
When we entered the classroom, Ikura and Tara were very calm and so were other birds.
I’m sure Ikura and Tara were tired from a long journey. They started dozing off soon.
As for Ikura, he even started talking later. Every time we had a laugh, he also started having a laugh... it was hilarious.
Perhaps he could have been doing well in a speaking class!
I’m quite surprised at their ability to notice food.
A lovely cockatiel was next to us and he was having a treat, while Ikura and Tara were napping.
Then they suddenly woke up and started begging with a weird dance...
Fortunately they got what they wanted from the kind owner, but don’t you think they’re a bit bad mannered?!
It’s very interesting what other owners bring for their lovely birds.
You know, what kind of food can be a treat, what kind of tools or toys to bring, and so on.
As for me, I brought powdered pellet and some oats.
The teacher was surprised at the powdered pellet, as it didn’t look like a tempting treat.
Well, well, once I started preparing the powder pellet, Tara woke up and showed his readiness to work with me.
So... perhaps both Ikura and Tara won’t demand wage increases.
It was really amazing to see how every bird in the class behaved well and worked on their tasks.
You know, every bird looked confident and brilliant.

先日、イクラとタラを連れて、コンパニオンバードのための行動＆トレーニングのクラスに参加してきました。
先生は、鳥のトレーニングで有名な石綿美香先生です。
石綿先生のレッスンは、昨年から受講するようになったのですが、鳥同伴でクラスに参加するのは今回が初めてです。
そして、ふたりが病院以外の目的で外出するのも今回が初めてでした。
この日のために、急きょキャリーケージを購入したので、何から何まで初めてづくしになるふたり。
こういう時、好奇心のかたまりであるふたりに感謝していますが、愛鳥さんのストレス軽減、緊張を避けるためにも、やはり慣れたケージでお出かけするのがよいと思います。
クラスに参加した主な理由は、ふたりの社会化。
自宅以外の場所でも、リラックスして過ごせるようになること。
家族以外の人にも怖がらず、緊張せずに接することができるようにすること。
ほかの鳥さんたちとも仲良くできるようにすること。
万一飼い主や家族に何かあって、一時的にほかの家族にお世話になることや、または新しい家族と暮らしていくこともあるかもしれません。
そうした時に、寂しさやストレスではなく、ふたりには新しい幸せを見つけてほしいので、社会化はとても大切だと感じています。
もちろん、「ふたりの幸せは必ず守る！」という意気込みで自分自身の健康管理もしっかり行っているつもりですが。
教室に入り、ふたりとも特に緊張した様子はなく、ほかの鳥さんがいても騒ぐことはありませんでした。そして、ほかの鳥さんたちもお行儀よく過ごしていたことも印象的でした。
ふたりは長時間の移動にも疲れたのか、すぐに居眠りを始め、リラックスモード。
イクラは後半になると、完全リラックスモードになったのか、クラスで笑いがおきる度にちょっと遅れて笑いにまざり、そしておしゃべり炸裂。
イクラ、話し方教室であれば、大活躍でしたね。
居眠りしていても、食べ物センサーだけは常に稼働しているようで、お隣のオカメインコさんがおやつをもらう度に目覚めて羨望の視線を送りつつ、怪しげなダンスを披露。
優しい飼い主さんがキビ穂をふたりにもくださり、勢いよく食べ始めるふたり。
参加していた飼い主さんたちの持ち物や、愛鳥さんにあげるおやつなど、とても参考になりました。
私が用意してきたごほうびは、ペレットをすり鉢ですった粉末、あとはケージに入らなかった時用のオーツ麦。
ペレットの粉末を準備し始めると、居眠りしていたタラにやる気スイッチが入り、起きてスタンバイします。
先生もこれにはびっくりしたようで、これで鳥さんが働いてくれるなんて、すごく労働単価が安いと笑っていました。
参加していた愛鳥さんたちが、日頃のトレーニングの成果を披露してくれるのですが、みんな本当に素晴らしいです。どの愛鳥さんも、輝いていました。
