In Uji, Kyoto

Tea leaves picked in early summer were packed in the tea jar.

For six months, the tea jars were stored at a cool high altitude to mature the tea leaves.

Around November, the tea jars were transported to Edo (present-day Tokyo).

During the Edo period (1603-1867), tea jars for the shogun were transported from Kyoto to Edo .

It was called 'Chatsubo Dochu' means procession of tea jars because it looked like a procession of daimyo (feudal lords), accompanied by many people.
