R-1 is a strange contest. Every year, you see some kind of mishap. Agree, Dave?
Yes, it is funny in the sense you mention, Laura. I’m not sure if comedians get inspired by that contest or not. However, it does have a few things they should improve on.
I’ve been wondering if there is an R-1 like contest in America.
Well, there is something exactly called R-1, but it’s no funny.
ポ:How’s that?
It’s a kind of visa for religious people in the world to come to America and work. Comedy related one, I know, is Comedy Prize. It’s a contest for stand-up comedians.
What does the winner get? I mean, money.
デ:2,500 dollars for Gran Prix.
What? Only about 375,000 yen at the going rate. How CHEEP!
Yes, it’s peanuts for American show business. That’s why, I assume, people don’t get excited over it.
You know, when you insult someone important or break a public property, you’d pay hell of a compensation. That’s America.
You are right, Laura. Generally, Americans believe that making them laugh is a free service.
