I went to Yame today.  It is one of the oldest cities in Japan. I'm stunned by the good old Japanese scenaries there.  Ok, maybe not stunned but it caught my eyes and got me taking few pictures.

These old architectures mostly made out of woods.  You can see aging parts in them but that's the beauty of it.

For lunch, we went into this cute little Soba noodle place.  It's definitely a hole in the wall kinda place.

You see the drape and the sliding doors?  That's the classic, good old fashioned store.  This place is called Soba Kiri, Fuminokura.

This is what you see as you enter.  There's a counter table straight ahead and the dining tables on your right hand side.

Aren't these little drawers cute?  They're selling the buckwheat teas and buckwheat syrup.  What? I've never heard of buckwheat syrup.  I questioned it but gosh I was wrong!  It was GOOD!

This is how it looks from where I was sitting.  I love the decors and wood carvings on top! I think it's a pine tree on the right.

Okay, enough about decors and showcasing.  We gotta look at the menu.  But they don't have much to order from...so I ordered usual.  I mean this is my first time here but I tend to order Soba with Tempura a lot ever since I'm back in Japan.

Tada!

I know it's all about carbs.  But if you want to maximize your eat-out experience, you've got to enjoy what you love.  Food, in case of me.  It's not the time to eat the right nourishing food and criticize other kind.  They look healthy enough so I just thank the universe for this wonderful meal and send my love and light to the food so that it'll multiply in my digestive system.  Energy is contagious, when I can't have the certified organic politically correct food, I send the bubbly loving energy to change it around and in the food.  Gratitude brings you the things or experience you are thankful for.  That's my blueprint.

However, I didn't know this combo would come with a gigantic chicken meatball so I traded it off with an eggplant tempura that my mom had.  The tempura dish was awesome!  There were an eggplant, kabocha and Chikuwa and they didn't get soggy as time went by which surprised me since even the crunchiest tempura are in the risk of getting soft and soggy if you don't eat right off the bat!  They did a great job on that.

Oh no, can't forget to talk about the most important thing in the Soba place without talking about Soba!  It was a wow!  If you are a noodle lover, you know what I'm talking about.  This is a simple dish so you can't cheat!  You can't cover up and hide with anything. The andante Soba was so good!  The chewiness was just remarkable.  And the dashi soup to dip in with with the few scallions and wasabi was just amazing.  This subtle flavor is the Zen kind of practice. It's not overly done yet you taste the chef's delicate hearty "Qi" emersed in there.  You might have to be an empath to get my subtle point.  Ok no offense, I'm just sharing what I'm good at; food tasting

Moving on.

This is their Soba ice cream.
Well, I've never heard of this one before so I was skeptical.  How could the ice cream goes well with buckwheat???  Do they think of this due to just wanting to make it gluten free?  Although I wasn't expecting fantastic out of this, I tried it anyway because I was pretty convinced that the lunch combo wasn't enough for me.  But guess what?  I was so wrong!  It was definitely the vanilla flavor, but I tasted something crunchy again.  That's not tempura bits.  Then I realized that it was the buckwheat bits.  They were all toasted and kinda popped in the mouth as you munch them.  And they drizzled over the buckwheat syrup.  Oh my, I'm drooling again.  It was fantabulous!

The whole experience here was awesome!
It was in the 1930's when they built this house and made it into a Soba eatery in the recent year.  Although I'm not from the era, it gives me some kind of nostalgia.  The music they were playing was another hipster factor. It was Jazz from the 30's.  I love the fashionable hipster kind of idea of matching these vintages from the two different coasts of the Pacific Ocean.  Japan meets America in this little small old town.

This place is highly recommended to those who want to experience good ol Japan with the good ol food.

And the cute little dolly decors.
