Pancakes.  I was never fond of this food.  It's too thick and bland to eat as a breakfast.  There's no fibers nor vitamins you'd need in the morning.  It's too much flour and gluten.  Nothing attractive about it.  So I never paid attention to that food.  Until now.

It was on the Girls Day here in Japan which was on March 3rd, when my mother and I decided to celebrate at this new spot in town.  I've heard the rumor that this place serves pretty good pancakes but I was wondering how good they could be.  So I needed to find out by really going there and eating them.  Besides, I've been hearing about many pancake cafes as if it's a trend in Japan.  So I needed to find out what they're really talking about.

First off, this is the cafe.  Oh, it's kinda fancy.

It's got some French ambiance with some French music.  I thought pancakes are American but this place is definitely a French colony.  Even decors are antique like these;

Beautiful upright piano.

And the tall cupboard.  Or plateboard.

I was amazed how large the place was.  They have a big table in the middle of the room.  I'm not surprised if they allow to have a party there.  It's a little odd though to have a party in the middle of the pancake cafe but maybe it's a thing in Japan nowadays.

Ok, now I'm going to talk about the main character here.  Pancake.  We gots to talk about our King, Pancake.

First of all, know that this is no IHOP.  This is a high grade, European cross-bred Pancake Kingdom.  They've got so many items with different flavors.  Matcha, Strawberry, Caramel, Chocolate, Almond just to name a few.  Who would think of Matcha and Redbean are the kind of flavors you get to taste in pancakes???   Some of you might think it's freakin' gross.  But you gotta understand that this is a French pastry influenced Japanese dessert parlor.  It must be good.  Somebody worked hard for the harmonized pancake affair.  So be bold and open minded to be able to taste what I'm about to show you here.

Here we go, my fancy east meets west Japanese Pancskes.  Do you see what are on them?
Matcha and Vanilla Ice Creams, Redbean paste, Whipped cream, Maple syrup and Rice Cake Balls around the edge of the plate. Who would have thought that these are the match made in heaven?  This coupling of two completely different cultures bred some kind of wonderful.  This is a mouth watering event.  God blessed the pancakes.

This is what my mother ordered.  This one is Caramel nuts.   Love that they put two scoops of vanilla ice creams with the whipped cream on top. By the way, why are they serving three pancakes?  Japanese don't eat that many I've noticed.  Every time I eat out, I need to order extra but today I didn't have to because three fluffy pancakes will do.

Well today's take away.

You can't be prejudiced before you tried.
I didn't like pancakes before but until I try this particular ones at this particular place, I would never find out about this bold flavored sweetie pie.  You'd never know until you try so don't be assuming anything.

I need to go back to the lovely place again to try something else on the menu to completely challenge my habitual thinking.  Thank you Pancakes for opening up my eyes and my mind!
