I went to see my friend Kimie's Pastel Art exhibition today.  She is a fabulous artist!  By using pastel powders, she draws mandala like flower art which looks like water crystal or snow flake! I've been seeing her art on her social media posts but it was my first time to try the pastel flower mandala at her booth where she taught walk-in people.  She showed me how to do it of course but it was such an experience!!!

Ok, I'll give you a quick overview.  First you choose the colors you want.  Then you cut up the shape of a flower petal on another piece of paper.  Basically you use this petal cutter as you place it on the canvas paper to fill your colors in.  You use your fingers to fill in the colors by spreading and smearing the powdered pastels.  Instead of outlining the flower shape, you use the eraser to smear around the outlines where the petal cutter is placed.  I realized it's hard to verbally explain how to create an art as the art itself requires your physical body to create.  So if you have no idea what I'm saying, I encourage you to get an opportunity to really make it

Anyway, this is what I drew with my fingers today!

The whole time, I was so relaxed as if I was meditating.  This is a Zen art; you get to be creative as you meditatively move your fingers and color your paper.  It's such easy motions.  By repeating somewhat humdrum and mundane finger moves for a short while, your art is done.  I didn't make it randomly as if I don't care about a thing, but I didn't put all my heart to slay it, either.  It's kind of like your breath.  You are breathing every day and that's why you are alive but you don't consciously breathe every single breath because you have other things to do in life and you often forget that you even breathe every day.  This pastel flower mandala exercise has some resemblance to it.  It was such a peaceful moment.  I enjoyed the process.

I also made friend with the beautiful lady sitting next to me who had already started the pastel art when I got there.  She owns a sandwich place which will be grand opening soon.  As we talked more, I found out that she studied astrology and oracle cards.  What a coincidence because I do Tarot and Oracle card reading!  She was also telling me about flower of life and seed of life that she studies about which I still haven't got 100% sure of her meaning.  I think she was talking about some kind of mysterious power and energy which flowers and seeds eminate.  Well, I'll most likely find out more about it later as I get to know her better.

It was such a fun day today to be able to do the art and to get to know someone new, and to see and have fun with my artist friend Kimi.
