The U.S. launch of the 5.6-inch phablet, which has a curved screen that wraps around its right edge, represents a surprising step for the South Korean tech giant, which previously released its more innovative designs in limited quantities. For example, the concave Galaxy Round and the metal-framed Galaxy Alpha were only launched in South Korea and a handful of test markets.
While many holiday shoppers have managed to complete their Christmas shopping on Black Friday and Cyber week, others have only begun making their lists. With Christmas less than two weeks away and holiday sales slowly but predictably waning off, this weekend may present the last chance for Christmas shoppers that are yet to complete their shopping lists.
However, this late in the shopping season, buyers are presented with an unexpected situation. That is, at many major retailers, only the 64 GB and 128 GB iPads are in-stock, while the popular 16 GB iPads have already been sold out. “However, holiday shoppers can still find the 16GB iPad Mini and iPad Air with handsome discounts if they look in the right places” says Casey Donalds, a co-author of the above deal reviews.
The next challenge buyers are faced with is deciding the right generation of iPad. The 9.7 inch iPad Air shoppers have to choose between the 1st generation and 2nd generation iPad Air tablets while the 7.9 inch iPad Mini shoppers have to choose between the 2nd and 3rd generation mini iPads. You may interested on: cheap ipad mini cases and best cases for iPhone 6 plus.
The 9.7" versions have quite a few significant differences between the 2013 and 2014 models. For example, the 2014 model (1) is faster with a triple-core, 1.5 GHz A8X Apple processor and 2GB of RAM, (2) is 0.05 inches thinner, (3) is 32 grams lighter, (4) has a fingerprint scanner, and (5) is available in Champagne Gold in addition to the classic silver and space gray. Shoppers will have to choose between the two models based on these specs.
2014 saw the release of new tablets for both Google and Apple. Google has launched its much awaited follow up to its Nexus 10, which was released in 2012, while Apple attempts to outdo its iPad Air, which is touted to be one of the best tablets in the world.
Here, we pit the Google Nexus 9 against the iPad Air 2 in the battle of the high-end and large screen tablets:
The iPad Air 2 looks nearly identical to its predecessor, with a few upgrades, while the Nexus 9 is an entirely different device from the Nexus 10 or even the Nexus 7.
The iPad Air 2 is thinner and lighter than the original at 9.4 x 6.6 x 0.24 inches and 0.96 pounds, while the Nexus 9 measures 8.98 x 6.05 x 0.31 inches and 0.94 pounds. When it comes to dimensions, there's not much difference between the two, but the iPad Air 2 has a larger display at 9.7 inches versus the Nexus 9's 8.9-inch screen. However, both screens have the same resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels.
The Apple tablet has a unibody aluminium construction, while the Google tablet has a plastic body.
