Yesterday in our Physical Science class (6:00-7:30 PM), the professor asked us which among the layers of atmosphre is the hottest and the coolest.
I thought that on earth the layer of atmosphere nearest to the sun is the hottest and the farthest is the coolest. That would be exosphere for the hottest and troposhere for the coldest. But actually, the correct answer is mesosphere for the coldest and the hottest is thermosphere.
And why is that?
Isn't sun's heat hotter than anything else? Or are there any exceptions?
