Joe Layne searched his mind, trying to remember any basketball player in Morgan County who had been named a Mr.
The Wartburg boys' basketball coach got an answer, though, on Wednesday, when the TSSAA announced its finalists for the 2011 12 season and Wartburg junior Alex Fountain was on the list.
Miss Basketball winners for Class A, AA and AAA will be named at the Middle Tennessee State's Murphy Center on March 10, the day of the girls' state championships. Mr. Basketball winners will be unveiled at the Murphy Center on March 17, the day of the boys' finals.
Fountain, a finalist in Class A, is a 6 foot 7 forward who averages 23.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. He was the District 4 A MVP this season. He also shoots 53 percent from the floor, 38 percent from the 3 point line and 74 percent at the free throw line.

"He can go inside. He can play outside," said Layne of Fountain. "If you want to get it to him with his back to the basket, he can score down low that way.
"He helps us beat presses. He's probably the second best ballhandler we have. That right there makes him tough to match up with. If you guard him with a guard, he'll take you inside. If you guard him with a post, he'll take you outside. (His versatility) is huge in single A basketball."
Cole, a 6 2 senior post player for Stone Memorial, was named a finalist in Class AA along with Christ Presbyterian's Jalen Lindsey and Craig Bradshaw.
Cole was the regular season and district tournament MVP in District 4 AA. An undersized post player who plays below the rim, Cole has managed to use other assets to average 25 points and 11 rebounds per game against a formidable schedule that included Alcoa, McCallie, Liberty, Bolivar, Fulton, Montgomery Bell Academy and Livingston Academy.
"We're very excited. He's a wonderful kid," said Stone Memorial basketball coach Mike Buck. "I'm just a big fan of him. He's a hard worker. He gets a lot out of his ability. It's easy to cheer for somebody like that.
"He understands a little nudge here. He understands angles. He stays ahead of the play with his mind and the angles he plays at. And another thing, he has fantastic hands. He's got great touch."
Masengil being named a Miss Basketball finalist in Class AA came as no shock. She was the MVP of last season's Class AA state tournament and she was named 2011 PrepXtra Sophomore of the Year. Christian Louboutin Outlet
The 5 11 forward has averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior and was the District 5 AA regular season and tournament MVP.
Abbey Sissom (Cannon County) and Rachel Bell (Creek Wood) are the other Class AA finalists.
Masengil holds an offer from Tennessee Martin and his getting heavy interest from Chattanooga, MTSU and Western Carolina. She's also a 4.0 student who could graduate as the school's valedictorian in 2013.
"She would trade (Miss Basketball) in a second for another gold ball. I don't think there's any doubt about that," said McMinn Central coach Johnny Morgan. "But it's always good to get those individual awards, but I think she's concentrating on the region tournament now.
"It's big for our school. I think she looks at it, whether she gets it or not, as people vote on it. If we win a tournament, that's something we've gone out and we've earned it. I don't think it'll change her at all." cheap oakleys
