居合抜きの演武 A Performance of “Iai-nuki”

先日、サンマリノ共和国駐日大使夫人であるカデロ絵里さんの居合抜きの演武を拝見する機会がありました。

The other day I was privileged to see a performance of “iai-nuki” (a traditional martial art of Japan) by Eri Cadelo, the wife of the ambassador to Japan from The Republic of San Marino.

私が真正面に座っていたので、彼女はずっと私を睨んでいました。終わってから、「あなたをずっと睨んでいましたが、これは武術のためであって、あなたが嫌いな訳ではありません」と丁寧に挨拶してくれました。

She stared me down throughout the performance. Afterwards, she approached me and apologized saying, “I was glaring at you the whole time, but that was for the art, not because I dislike you.”
