連日、ミュージカル「ウェストサイズストーリー」の練習でクタクタです。平均年齢62歳のオジサン(オジイサン？)たちが100人規模で集合して、歌ったり踊ったり、毎日大変な騒ぎです。
I'm worn out after several days of rehearsals for the musical "West Size Story." The studio is always overflowing with energy when you have over 100 highly successful men singing and dancing, especially when their average age is 62.
我が六本木男声合唱団倶楽部の団員の職業は社長、医者、弁護士、政治家、タレント等ですから、出演者やスタッフの平均時給が1万円を下回ることはないでしょう。
The members of our Roppongi Men's Chorus Club are presidents of companies, doctors, lawyers, politicians, actors, etc., none of which if paid hourly would receive less than 10,000 yen per hour in compensation, and most of which would receive many, many times that.
練習8時間、準備や移動に2時間掛かるとして、一日10時間×100人×1万円=1000万円ずつ費やされています。
But just for sake of calculation, if we practice for 8 hours, and it takes 2 hours of travel time to get there and back, then the economic value of the time involved is 10 hours x 10,000 yen/hour x 100 people, or 10,000,000 yen for one rehearsal.
その時間を使ってみんなが普通に仕事をしていれば日本経済に貢献できたはずの金額は、とっくに50億円を超えているかな？大人の趣味と遊びにはお金が掛かりますね。
Theoretically, if the members had used the time spent on this musical for their regular professions, the economic value to the Japanese economy would easily exceed 5,000,000,000 yen (five billion yen) so far. Adult hobbies and pastimes cost money!
しかし、実際に見に来てくれた人や、この舞台の話題を知ってくれた人が、「よし、自分も頑張ろう！」と元気になって、それぞれが今まで以上に仕事や社会貢献に励んでくれたら、きっと日本経済全体では元が取れるはずだと、私は信じています。
On the other hand, if the people who hear about or actually come to see the musical get a psychological boost and can contribute more to society than they have done before, then I am convinced that the result will be a net gain for the Japanese economy.
因みに、今日の稽古は１３時間でした！
