私はテレビ朝日・東映の制作でシリーズ化されている日本の刑事ドラマ『相棒』の大ファンです。主演の水谷豊の演技は、刑事コロンボとは一味違う大変素晴らしいものです。
I am a diehard fan of Aibou, a Japanese television detective series produced by TV Asahi and Toei, which is now in its 14th season. The main character played by Yutaka Mizutani delivers a flawless performance in a style different from but reminiscent of Columbo.
最も有名なセリフの一つは、皆さんもよくご存じの「はぁ～いぃ？」。あれを聞くたびにどうしても笑ってしまいます。
One of his most famous lines is “Hai?” delivered by raising the pitch of the “i” by about an octave. I laugh every time I hear it.
さて来月、六本木合唱団倶楽部のミュージカルに私は出演します。その中の一場面の最後に、このセリフが使われているのですが、これを演じる有名な弁護士は一度も『相棒』を見たことがないので、どうしても正しい言い方ができません。
I will be appearing in a musical with the Roppongi Men’s Chorus Club in January. In one scene, one of the characters is to deliver this line to end the scene on a comic note. However, the actor is a famous Japanese attorney who has never seen Aibou, so he can’t figure out how to deliver the line properly.
それにしても『相棒』をまだ見たことがない人が日本にいたことに驚くばかりです。日本のテレビドラマ史上に残る最高傑作の一つだと言うのに。
It is really astounding that there would be anyone in Japan (Japanese people) who have never seen this drama. It is one of the best programs ever produced in Japan.
