A Neat Little Trap?
先週土曜日の出来事を紹介しておきます。間違いなく皆さんのためになる話です。
Let me tell you about what happened last Saturday. I guarantee this information will save you money.
浅草橋の会場で10時スタートのセミナーの講師をするため、9:20過ぎにこの駐車場に車を入れました。私が停めたのは4番です。ほぼ同じタイミングで、もう一人の講師であるＮさんもこの駐車場に車を停めました。入れたのは3番だったと思います。私たちは近くのセミナー会場へ一緒に向かいました。
Around 9:20 a.m., I parked my car in a pay lot in Asakusa-bashi next to the hall where I was to speak at a seminar beginning at 10:00 a.m. I parked in space #4. The other speaker, Mr. N, arrived at the same time and parked next to me in space #3. We then walked to the hall together.
18時までの長いセミナーが無事に終わり、会場を片付けて、私たちがこの駐車場に戻ってきたのは19時前だったと思います。私が先に駐車料金の精算を済ませました。料金は土曜日昼間の最大料金である2400円。次にＮさんが清算しようとすると、精算機に表示された料金は5700円！ あれっ！？ ほぼ同時に入れたはずだよね？
This very long seminar successfully concluded at around 6 p.m., and we arrived back in the parking a little before 7 p.m. I put my money in the machine first. The charge was the Saturday daytime maximum of 2,400 yen. When Mr. N then tried to pay, the machine charged him 5,700 yen. What?! We both parked at almost the exact same time.
看板を良く見ると、土曜日の最大料金2400円が適用されるのは4～13番車室のみ。1～3番には最大料金の設定が無いから、通常の30分300円×9時間30分で5700円！ 料金は何と2倍以上です。
Checking the sign carefully, the maximum rate on Saturdays is 2,400 yen for spaces #4 through #13. For spaces #1 through #3, there is no maximum, so the rate is the normal 300 yen per 30 minutes times nine and a half hours, which equals 5,700 yen! He had to pay over twice what I did.
私も停める時点では看板や番号を詳しく見ていなかったから、今回はラッキーでした。13分の3、つまり約23％の割合の罠に掛かってしまったＮさんが不運だったのかも？ ちなみに私も以前、別の場所にある駐車場でこの罠に引っ掛かって、6000円くらい支払った経験があります。
I didn't read the sign carefully beforehand, so I was lucky this time. But Mr. N was unfortunate to be caught in this trap, where the probability of being charged the high rate is 3 out of 13, or about 23%. I have made the same mistake before in a different lot and ended up paying over 6,000 yen.
一番車を停めやすいスペースだけがこうなっていることがあるので、「今日は車を楽に入れられたなぁ」と思ったら、要注意。みなさんも「巧妙な罠」にはお気を付け下さい！
Sometimes the spaces where it is easiest to park cost more, so if you are thinking, "Wow, it was easy to get into this lot!" then you had better check the signs again. Everybody watch out for this neat little trap!
