先日利用した駐車場で見かけた車です。このような青い迷彩柄があることを、このベンツのお陰で初めて知りました。
This is a car I noticed in a hotel parking lot the other day, and because of this Mercedes, I became aware of this kind of blue camouflage.
調べてみたら、アメリカ海軍や海上自衛隊は青い迷彩柄を採用しているそうです。確かに海の上でジャングル用の緑色の迷彩服を着ていたら、逆に目立ちますよね。他にも砂漠用や市街地用などがあって、迷彩柄も進化しているようです。
Apparently, the U.S. Navy and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces use a blue camouflage. A traditional camouflage would hide nothing on the water, but rather stick out. There is another camouflage style used for desert combat and one for urban environments.
安い中古車を買ってきて、遊び心で迷彩塗装をするのなら理解できますが、「高級車のベンツにこんな塗装をするとは、お金が余ってる人は凄いな！」と思っていたら、友人の話では、「これは恐らくカーラッピングだから、比較的安い価格でやれるし、飽きたら元に戻せますよ」とのことでした。
If someone were to buy a used sports car and paint it this way I could understand, but I couldn't help thinking that someone must have a lot of extra money to be painting a luxury car like this. However, my friend pointed out that this is probably "car wrapping," (film) which is relatively cheap, and which can be removed if the owner gets tired of it.
そこで「迷彩 ラッピング」でGoogle画像検索をしてみたら、迷彩柄の車の写真が大量にヒットしました。ベンツだけでなく、フェラーリ、ポルシェ、マセラッティ、アウディなどの高級車もありますね。
So I looked up "car wrapping" on Google and found a huge number of pictures of cars done up in camouflage, including lots of luxury cars, not just Mercedes, but also Ferraris, Porsches, Maseratis, Audis.
個人的には「使い道に困るほどお金が余ってるのなら寄付でもすれば良いのに」と思いますが、車好きの方にとっては、そういう問題ではないのでしょう！
Personally, if someone has money to burn, I would like to see them contribute it to some good cause, but that is not the issue for people who really love cars!
