ＴＢＳ系列のテレビ番組「ＳＡＳＵＫＥ(サスケ)」をご存知だと思います。アメリカでは三大ネットワークの一つであるＮＢＣがＴＢＳと提携し、ゴールデンタイムに放送するほどの超人気番組です。
You probably know of the TBS show "Sasuke." NBC bought the rights to air this show in golden time in the U.S., and it is wildly popular among American college students.
ちなみに2008年には、同じく三大ネットワークの一つであるＡＢＣが、「ＳＡＳＵＫＥ」や「風雲たけし城」にソックリな番組を放送していて、ＴＢＳから放送差し止めと損害賠償の訴訟を起こされたこともありました。裁判がその後どのようになったのかまでは知りませんが…。
In 2008, ABC produced a show which copied "Sasuke" and "Fu-un Beat Takeshi Castle" and was promptly sued by TBS for damages and an injunction to have the broadcasts terminated. I'm not sure what happened with the lawsuit after that.
息子たちもあの番組が大好きで、なかでも三男のアンドリューは、ちょうど彼が来日するタイミングに、番組の撮影が行われることを知って、「ＳＡＳＵＫＥに出場したいから、日本語の参加申請を書いてくれ！」と私に頼んで来たことがありました。
My sons are big fans of "Sasuke." My third son Andrew, when he learned that there would be a filming while he would be in Japan, asked me to write a letter and application in Japanese to send to TBS asking for permission to compete.
「自分はケント・ギルバートの三男なので、自分がもし出場できたら父親も間違いなく応援に来ます！」という自己アピールが効いたのかな？ 三男はお見事予選参加者に選ばれてＳＡＳＵＫＥに出場し、私も緑山まで応援に行き、しっかりオンエアされました。2008年のことでした。
He wrote, "I am the son of Kent Gilbert, and if I am able to be a contestant on the show, my father will definitely come to cheer me on." I guess his self-promotion was effective, because he was chosen to be a contestant in the qualifying round. Of course our whole family traveled out to Midoriyama to cheer him on, and we all appeared in the broadcast. That was several years ago in 2008.
