Typhoons and Umbrellas
昨日、気象庁が異例の「特別警報」を発表して、沖縄を超強力な台風が通り過ぎ、今日は西日本の降雨量が記録を更新しそうです。今日の夕方から関東にも影響が出始めるようですが、台風のときに傘ほど役に立たないものはありません。
Yesterday the Meteorological Agency announced a very unusual “Special Warning” about the current typhoon which ravaged Okinawa yesterday, which is expected to drop record levels of precipitation in Western Japan today, and which will begin to affect the Kanto area tonight. There are very few things which are more useless in a typhoon than an umbrella.
そこで自宅の玄関にある傘立てを見たら、自分で購入したものは一本もありません。盗んだ訳でもありません。傘というものは、自然と増えるものですよね。本当に不思議です。
So I took a look at the umbrella holder in the entrance of my house. There is not one umbrella there which I bought. Of course, I didn’t steal them either. Umbrellas seem to increase in number naturally. Very strange.
今回の台風の被害が最小限に終わることをお祈りしています。 I pray that the damage from this typhoon will be very limited.
