It seems like that puppies have more chances of adoptions than adult dogs at animal shelters. Well, indeed they are cute. Moreover, it’s said everywhere that you better train your dogs while they are puppies, which kind of sounds like that it’s difficult to train adult dogs…
Our Mr. Kurama didn’t even react to his original name. Of course, he didn’t know any basic commands like “sit” or “down” at all. His former owner might have been a dog owner who wasn’t instersted in dogs…
Kurama was super house trained but we don’t know if he was taught to be or he just wants to be that way.
Anyway, he came to our home on May 1st and we took care of some health issues first and started to take him to a nearby doggy school on May 24th.
So, it has been roughly two months and this 5-year-old old guy is having a good time there.
We attend not only obedience classes but also trick and agility.
The obedience class is the necessory one for us and he is alredy in the 3rd level, which prepares you for Canine Good Citizen test.
The dog who didn’t know “sit” in May can sit and wait us more than a minute even when we disappear from his sight after only two months of training.
In the picture above, he is practicing to run straight back to us when he is called no matter how attractive toys and treats on the floor are.
I love his facial expression.
We named him “Kurama” in the car leaving from the animal shelter after an unexpected debate. We intended to keep his original name to avoid confusing him though we both didn’t like it, but Kurama didn’t respond it at all. So, we lost the point to keep it.
We didn’t do much training but gave him some treats when he responded to us when we called him “Kurama”. That’s it. It took only two or three days until he learned his new name. Easy.
