In the mid ’80s Mervin Manufacturing’s Mike Olson and Pete Saari were some of the first board makers to move away from fins on snowboards and introduce camber and metal edges, helping to define the modern snowboard. But back then, the snowboard industry was in its infancy and before long the guys were 150,00 dollars in debt. The new season of Snow Craft kicks off with a look at what it took for Olson and Saari to get the Gnu and Lib Tech brands off the ground.
Snow Craft is TransWorld’s original video series, created by Lukas and Jesse Huffman, celebrating grassroots board builders past and present. The new series, Snow Craft Generations, looks at the triumphs and failures of Dimitrije Milovich from Winterstick, and Pete Saari and Mike Olson from Mervin Manufacturing, as well as some up and coming board shapers.
