Words by Ben Ferguson: Living in Bend Oregon and riding at Mt. Bachelor, I have access to some amazing terrain. Despite being on the contest circuit the last couple years and riding lots of half pipe, I try my hardest to get home and take advantage of what I love to ride. Mt. Bachelor has some of the funnest freestyle terrain around, but I don’t get the opportunity to take my sled out, explore, and ride very often. So when it’s June and it’s snowing I felt I had to take advantage. My good friend Pete Alport hit me up with an idea to sled and hike up to Broken Top Mountain to do some exploring and hopefully get some sick shots. We had a great day! Full of snowmobiling, building, lots of hiking, and a little bit of boarding. It was the first time I had really done any backcountry riding before and it was the hardest I’ve ever worked to get shots. I had lots of fun and felt a strong sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. I look forward to the future when hopefully I can do more snowboarding out of bounds and take advantage of what mother nature has to offer.
