Harrison Bader, the center fielder for the New York Mets, hurt his neck and upper back on Tuesday night while trying to make a catch against the Washington Nationals.
Manager's Decision
After being removed from the game in the fourth inning, Bader is reportedly considered day to day, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. In lieu of Bader, Brandon Nimmo drove in two runs, enabling the Mets to win 7-2 after 10 innings.
After a recent incident on Sunday night in his hotel room where he fainted and wounded his forehead, Nimmo is back in work. Mendoza said he was certain Nimmo was ready to play, saying, “After he went through his pregame routine, he came in the office and said, ‘I’m good to go.’ And then after he saw that Bader play, he went right in and started moving around, so he was ready to go and then obviously we saw it.”
Details of the Injury
Bader was hurt in the bottom of the third inning when he led with his left arm and crashed into the right-center field video screen while chasing a ball that had been hit by Jacob Young. Mendoza decided to take him out of the game even though he had started to show signs of pain.
Apart from Bader's injury, J.D. Drew wasn't available for the Mets as their designated hitter. Martinez because of a left ankle ache. Mendoza clarified, “He said he felt something last night, didn’t think much of it and then today, same,” Mendoza explained. “And then when he went to hit in the cages, he didn’t feel right. Hopefully it’s just a day or two. We’ll see what we got tomorrow, but that’s all to it.”
Player Stats
After agreeing to a one-year, $10.5 million contract in January, Bader, 30, has been a vital addition to the Mets this season, hitting.273 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. He had played for the Cincinnati Reds, the New York Yankees, and the St. Louis Cardinals for a number of seasons.
