大学１～２年のころ、最も仲良しだった友人の家に2週間お世話になる予定♪
彼女は1年前に結婚して、今はボストンから1時間ほどの郊外に旦那さんと二人で住んでいるみたい。
なんだかホームステイしに行くみたいでワクワクします
さてさて。
長い間英語関連の仕事をやったりしてきましたが、アメリカの地を踏むのはじつに10年ぶり。
ちょこっと英語をブラシアップするためにも最近はアメリカのTV番組見たり、
英語の本を読んだりHP見てたりしているわけです。
そんななか、とっても面白いアメリカンジョークに遭遇
せっかくなので和訳してご紹介しますね！
【コンピューターって男性名詞？女性名詞？？】
言語学の先生が授業で「フランス語の名詞は英語と違って
男性名詞か女性名詞か決められています」、と説明した。
たとえば「家」は女性名詞で「la maison」。
反対に「鉛筆」は男性名詞で 「le crayon」。
するとある生徒は尋ねた。
「コンピューターはどちらの性別なんですか？」と。
答えを知っていなかった先生はクラスの生徒たちを男女別に２グループに分け、
「コンピューター」が女性名詞になるのか男性名詞になるのか
それぞれ理由を述べてディスカッションするようにと言った。
議論の末、男子のグループは「コンピューター」は女性名詞に違いない、という結論に達した。
なぜなら：
１．やつらの内部の理屈がわかるのは、創作者のみ（神のみ）だから。
２．他のコンピューターとコミュニケーションをとる際に使用される言語が他のものには
理解しがたいものだから。
３．どんな些細なミスでも後に復旧することを可能にするためなのか、長期メモリに保存するから。
４．1台購入すると、すぐにそのための accessory[2重の意味： 付属品（PC）/ アクセサリー（女）]
に給与の半分がとぶから。
うん、なるほど一理ある･･･。
しかし、対する女子グループは、「コンピューター」は男性名詞に違いないという結論に。
そのココロは･･･：
１．何を頼むにしても、やつらを turn on する[２重の意味：電源を入れる（PC) / （色気で）その気にさせる（男）]
ことから始めなくてはならないから。
２．データ容量はハンパないくせに、いまだに指示がないと動くことが出来ないから。
３．問題解決を手助けするために開発されたくせに、多くの場合やつらが問題の“種”だったりするから。
４．１台購入すると間もなく、もうちょっと待てばもっといい機種が手に入れられたということに気付くから。

ちなみに私のPCはパソヲタの弟に選ぶの手伝ってもらったので
結構ナイスガイだと思っていたのですが･･･意外と大事なところでフリーズしたり、
頼んでもない時にウイルススキャンをして（気を使ってくれたのか！？）
そのおかげで動画編集などの作業能率を下げたり･･･してくれます
そんなダメンズなところも愛さねば

Both groups were required to give four reasons for their recommendation.

No one but their creator understands their internal logic
The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else
Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later review
As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheque on accessories for it.
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine "le computer") because:
In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves
They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem
As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you had waited a little longer you could have gotten a better model.
