ヒットメーカー野島伸司氏が「家族の絆」をテーマに描くホームドラマ。自然が残る山間の田舎町で暮らす真柴一家。ごく普通の家族がお互いを思いやり、成長していく姿が描かれていく。また真柴家の次男・幌を中心とした小学生の友情も見所のひとつ。
主題歌はマイケル・ジャクソン「ベンのテーマ」(1972年発表)。
