売春という行為は、ふつうお金のために身体を売ることとされているが、それは、売春婦の元型の中でも重要性の低い部分だ。「娼婦」の元型は、ごく普通の日常生活の中にこそ、極めて微妙なかたちでその姿を登場させる。
それがいちばんはっきりと表れてくるのは、生存が脅かされたときである。
物質的な安定のために、倫理規範、尊厳、知性、口にした言葉、身体、そして魂など、自分をどこまで売り渡してもいいと思うか、というのがそれである。
また、「娼婦」の元型は、信じる心の力を劇的なかたちで体現し、それを試す。自分を心底信じていれば、何者もあなたを「買う」ことはできない。自分のことは自分でできるのがわかっているし、神が自分を見守っていることも知っているからだ。
しかし、信じる心を持っていなければ、拒むことのできない「値段」にいつか出会ってしまうことになる。

The Prostitute thrives most bountifully in subtle ways and in the ordinary..., everyday circumstances. It comes into play most clearly when our survival is threatened. Its core issue is how much you are willing to sell yourself - your morals, your integrity, your intellect, your word, your body, or your soul - for the sake of physical security. The Prostitute archetype also dramatically embodies and tests the power of faith. If you have faith, no one can buy you. You know that you can take care of yourself and also the Divine is looking out for you. Without faith, however, you will eventually meet the price you cannot turn down.
