Thousands of people gathered outside the Washington state Capitol to protest the state's vaccine regulations, and some were heard singing the national anthem.
"We're adults, and we know how to take care of ourselves," Kelly Coyle, a former state Department of Transportation employee, told the Olympians. "I don't think you should force someone to inject something they don't want into their body and lose your livelihood." Coyle said she was forced into early retirement by Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee's vaccine mandate for state workers.
On Sunday, between 2,500 and 3,000 people attended an anti-authorization rally known as "no, you act" to protest Inslee's vaccine authorization for about 63,000 state workers in Washington. State workers have until October 18 to be fully vaccinated.
