Five men have been sentenced to more than a year in federal prison for burning a police car during a protest in Georgia over the killing of George Floyd.

Bruce Anthony Thompson, 23, Jesse James Smallwood, 23, Dwecko Waller, 23, Dassoon Martin, 24, and Judah Coleman Bailey, 21, of Hall County, Ga., pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson. The marked patrol car was parked outside the officer's Gainesville apartment complex around 1 a.m. on June 1, 2020, when the men set it ablaze.

The defendants met in downtown Gainesville before the SUV was found. They covered their faces with masks and bandanas, then fired flares through the back windshield, starting the fire, authorities said.
