Three former Minneapolis police officers are on trial in federal court on charges related to the death of George Floyd. Lawyers representing them questioned a senior police officer Monday about the department's restraint training, an officer's intervention duties and a culture that they said teaches new officers not to question their superiors.
Detective Katie Blackwell, a former head of training for the Minneapolis Police Department, testified that The actions of the former officers, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Ou Thao, were "inconsistent" with department policy. Blackwell, who took the stand for a third day Monday, said the trio failed to stop Shavin despite MPD training, roll Floyd on his side when he stopped resisting, and provide medical assistance when Floyd stopped breathing and could not find a pulse.
