The United States has more than 580,000 COVID-19 cases, breaking its own daily record for COVID-19 cases and surpassing a milestone it had broken just the day before.
The number of new cases on Thursday surpassed the 488,000 on Wednesday, according to a New York Times database, and was nearly double the highest number last winter. The record-breaking few days are an increasingly visible sign of the rapid spread of the virus as the world enters the third year of the pandemic.
