When you meet someone fot the first time , you have no idea what they are like . This can make you feel slightly uncomfortable and lead to an awkward atomosphere . On such occasions , exchanging smiles helps to break the ice and makes you feel you can communicate freely with each other .

In contemporary society , most ties are foged through mutual selfinterest . By which I mean that people 's real selves are hidden behind their social and economic positirons and tend to become lost in the haze .

I would like to see a warmer society in which human relationships are built on the basis of real attraction between individuals .

If you get too caught up in your own acting , you're likely not to notice other people 's . It's easy to deceive a liar , for example , because liars are apt to fall into the trap of thinking that they are the only people that lie .

Such actors think that it is only they themselves that act , and they don't realize that other people are actually much more conscious of acting than they are . These actors pretty simple people in real life .

The cellular phone is now widely used in Japan , and it seems to be changing our daily lives . Its main use is its main advantage : it allows you to contact people whever you are and whenever you want . Paradoxically , its main disadvantage is that you yourself can be bothered anytime and anywhere ! As with most technological advances , the apparent advantages it grings are balanced by disadvantages.
The Internet brings people together through terir mutual interests, regardless of teier sex, nationality , age , or occupation . A university student in Tokyo , for example , can get to kynou an elderly woman in Nwe York , and tey can discuss environmentam problems or physics , knitting or fishing . The various barriers that used to divide people are being broken down .

There's absolutely no necessity to read books quickly. If you look at reading only from the point of view of acquiring information, speed and the amount you read may be important. However, this has notihng to do with the true act of reading, whic is totally independent of such utilitarian purposes . This is why reading is so wonderful.

I've been reading some old novels recently . One reason is that I am bored by current writers and have started to feel that it would be better to re-read those books that found very rewarding in the past . Another is that I have become interested in observing the way in which writers mature in the process of writing epic novels.

Whatever the book , if I decided to read it at all, my ideal is to read it all the way through from beginning to end without skipping a page. At least , that is what I want to do , althrough I actually find it difficult to put my ideal into practice.
Browsing through the entries in an encyclopedia is just like wandering among the selves in a vast library. In the same way that you casually reach for books whose titles attention , you find yourself reading the entries that happen to catch ypur eye.
