In 1527, the first battle of Panipat between Babur and Ibrahim Lodhi was fought here. Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, belonged to Samarkand, defeated Ibrahim Lodhi here, and laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire. In order to make his victory memorable, he decided to build a mosque in the name of his wife Kabuli Begum. Since then, it is known as Kabuli Begum. This place has been an initial landmark to learn about Mughal Architecture which flourished in India with the passage of time.

In 1992, the main courtyard of this mosque has been closed because a few people wanted to demolish it.  As we know that in the same year, Babri Masjid in Ayodhya has been collapsed by people. Since then, it remains closed. Kabuli Bagh was the first monument built by Babur in India to commemorate his victory over Lodhi Dynasty. The architecture of this mosque was imitated from the mosque of Fergana and Samarkand from where Babur came. It used to be a prominent mosque during the Mughal dynasty, but the British did not look after it that ignorance made this mosque fragile and most of its parts have been collapsed right now.
