ミャンマーは今年の3月まで軍事政権でした。いろいろと深く暗い歴史があるのですが、昨年11月の総選挙でアウンサンスーチーさん率いる民主のNLD党が圧勝、今年の3月に54年ぶりに民主政権が誕生しました。待望の民主政権です。街中ではスーチーさんグッズがたくさん売ってます。
さて、今日はこの曲でいきましょう。昨日に続いての名バラードです。
「Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes / Love Lifts Us Up Where We Belong」
ご存知、「愛と青春の旅だち」の主題歌です。Joe Cockerの超ハスキーボイスとJenniferのキレイな声のコントラストがとても印象的なキレイなバラードです。
Joe CockerはWoodstockにも出演していたベテランなのですが、波乱万丈な時間を過ごした後にこの曲が大ヒットしました。
80年代の特徴として、MTV、Promotion Video、第2次ブリティッシュ・インベンション等などがありますが、映画のサントラも大きな特徴の1つです。
83年以降、そういったサントラからの大ヒット曲がわんさか出てきますが、この曲はその走りかもしれません。

The leader of NLD is Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Every Myanmer citizens waited for this democratic government.

This song is the theme song of the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman”. You can hear the good contrast between Joe Cocker’s husky voice and Jennifer’s clear voice. Joe is veteran singer who played in Woodstock Music Festival which held in 1969.
The typical character of 80’s music scenes are MTV, Promotion Video, British Invasion and so on. Also the hit songs from a sound track is the one of them.
After 1983, so many big hits were appeared from movie’s sound track. This song may be the first song of them.
