This weekend I had the honour of sitting alongside two artists who inspired me to transition from "a dresser-upperer" to learning how to create wearable art to pay tribute to the characters and stories I love, but more importantly to grow as a person and a part of the cosplay community, all while surrounded and supported by the amazing friends being a nerdy little thing has brought into my life. Representing a community that helped shape my world and identity is both exciting and filled with an incredible sense of responsibility. It's hard to define the unique, indelible influence our mentors and senpai have on each and every one us, and there's both a sense of pride and pressure that comes from wanting to be a good role model and a reliable wellspring of positivity. Sometimes it's easy to feel like just one drop in the ocean, yet to quote David Mitchell, what is any ocean but a multitude of drops? We're incredibly fortunate to be able to share a creative hobby that brings people together from all over Earth, with more heroes than any comic universe. So never let anyone tell you that what you do is a waste of your time or resources. We are dreamers of dreams and summoners of smiles, we turn heartfelt stories into heartbeats and conjure up a little bit of fairytale magic in real life. I think that's pretty amazing, and together we can change the world. Thank you for being part of mine. -- Photo shared from @YayaHan, taken at the @OzComicCon Sydney Cosplay Q&A 💖
