Amazon released the following statement about the project:
 
  "We are testing new technology in order to  X-Ray Inspection Machine , speed up delivery times and increase efficiency in our network. We expect to invest the efficiency savings in new services. . consumers, where new jobs will continue to be created."
 
  Amazon has spent billions of dollars outfitting its warehouses with robots and other automated equipment to speed up the delivery process and cut costs. In 2012, it spent $775 million to buy robotics company Kiva Systems. Last month, the company acquired Canvas Technology, a robotics company in Boulder, Colo., that operates autonomous vehicles in industrial settings.
 
  Amazon has repeatedly stated that it wants people and machines to work together in its warehouses. At the same time, the company was known for automating much of the process. Reuters noted that the technology has not yet solved one of the basic and important tasks of the warehouse: to collect different products without crushing them.

  Reuters reported that Amazon has placed these machines in some stores in recent years, including one near Seattle. The company is considering installing dozens of complete centers with these two machines, built by the Italian company CMC, that pack boxes faster than humans. Citing people familiar with the yet-to-be-finalized plans, Reuters reported that each machine could replace 24 jobs, equivalent to 1,300 roles in 55 US warehouses, of which could be automated.
