Day 2: Earthquakes... Reggae & Osaka
The next day... after enduring a sleepless night of aftershocks. The promoter for the first show of the tour in Osaka (west part of Japan) said the show was go!!
Musicians inspired by life experiences

Keeping busy was something we all wanted to do, so we ended up taking the 6 hr drive to Osaka.
We stopped at rest areas, ate food and reasoned about life

We arrived in Osaka in the evening. Osaka wasn't effected by the Earthquake at all. Life seemed quite normal there... the first thing that the promoter asked is if Gappy was ready to voice dubplates...

One thing about Osaka sounds... they love dubplates. They voiced some Gappy tunes that Gappy didn't even remember... lol. big up all the Osaka sounds!!!
Soon after we all took a rest and got ready for the show at Ten-G.
We arrived at Ten-G early but there were barely any people there yet... even though Osaka was not directly effected by the quake, you could still feel a certain vibe from the people. Unity Sound did a little early warm and then Gappy came on stage for his first performance in Japan.

the reception was good.. and people started to smile and enjoy Gappy's classic hits from his debut album "Put the Stereo On". He even went into songs like "Stinkin Rich" which got a big forward as well. He continued giving them tunes like "Tun Up", "Nuttin from dem" and so on... When Gappy started to sing his tune "Thanks n Praise" it became a little difficult because the song hit close to the incidents that unfolded the day before and Gappy had to stop and sing it from top again. The people looked happy to hear and feel music that night and Gappy ended his performance with "Heaven in her Eyes" that left the ladies full of smiles. Big Up Gappy!!!
After his performance, Pierre from Special Delivery niced up the dance with hits from the Special Delivery catalogue like "Westside" riddim & more... while Gappy signed autographs and talked with the people

If you've been following the blog... UK artist Gappy Ranks was set to arrive in Japan to start his Japan Tour on March 11th.... well Gappy longside Pierre from Special Delivery did mek it to Japan and was in full excitement when I met dem at the airport on the morning of the 11th. We took a 2 hr travel from the airport to Yokohama and checked in the hotel around 2pm that day... Gappyand Pierre were just settling in and full of smiles because it was their first trip to Japan and they were ready fi work!!!
First thing Gappy bought was Hot Coffee... since its the name of his record label

A few minutes after the first rizzla was rolled and sparked... Japan was hit with the biggest earthquake in Japan's history with a 9.0 magnitude in the north. Dwelling on the 3rd flow of a 17 floor building it swayed back and forth leaving everyone in it holding on to the walls and wondering if its going to stop. Welcome to Japan Gappy Ranks & Pierre!!!

In Yokohama, the earthquake was only a 6 magnitude, still the largest quake I've felt since I've lived here. Both amazed at the size of the earthquake, we waited until the aftershocks were less intense until we ventured outside. Of coarse, worried about my family some 3km away, I decided to hurry back to my apartment to check on my fam since the phones weren't working. Gappy and Pierre wanted to help me out so they came along (biggggg respect!!!).
We couldn't catch a cab at all... so we ended up walking the 3km to my apartment... and luckily my fam was good. Apartment was a little disturbed... similiar when your mom walks in your room and says "what happened?? looks like an earthquake hit it." In actuality.. it did this time.
After checkin the fam... Gappy & Pierre took the trek back to the hotel and advised me to stay with my fam for the night... i obliged. Give thanks again!!! Real yutes mi seh!!!
No one slept much that night... as aftershocks were frequent all night.
