超絶技巧-フィリグリーのジュエリー。

   モンゴルのジュエリーの特徴のひとつは、ゴールドやシルバーの台座にびっしりと施された金や銀の糸の装飾。

例えば、貴族女性の非常に特徴的なヘッドドレスなどには、金や銀の台座にこのフィリグリーで表面を隙間なく埋め尽くした上で、ターコイズや珊瑚、パールなどの宝石が散りばめられていました。

One of the features of Mongolian jewelry is decoration of gold and silver threads that are closely attached to gold and silver pedestals.

銀の台座に銀線細工(フィリグリー)を施し、ターコイズと珊瑚をあしらった典型的かつ豪華な逸品。

filigreeーフィリグリーと呼ばれるこの超絶技巧は、エジプト第12王朝に始まったいわれ、その後、世界各地に伝播しました。

同様の技術はギリシア、エトルリア、インド、、古代インカ、中国、朝鮮にも見られますが、わが国の古墳からも耳飾が出土しています。

その後、古代ヨーロッパやアジアなど世界各地に伝えられて、中世には盛んに作られました。日本にもこの技術はオランダやポルトガルとの南蛮貿易を通じて伝えれました。

しかし、現在ではなかなか本来のフィリグリーを見かけることはないようです。

そんな貴重な技法のフィリグリーですが、モンゴルでは未だ盛んに用いられています。

This is a part of Filigree found in Ulaanbaatar's metalworking studio.

そのパーツを元にしてオーダーしたシルバーのリング。

Silver ring ordered based on that part.

シンプルなデザインですが、細かな打ち出し文様と銀線を編み込んだ立体感が独特の質感を生み出していて、非常に美しい仕上がりになりました。

Although it is a simple design, the finished laid out pattern and the stereoscopic feel of knitting silver wire have created a distinctive texture and it has become a very beautiful finish.

また、その工房で私が感動したのが幾人もの若いお弟子さんたちが一生懸命に働いていたこと。

じつはモンゴルの金工細工の工房は、ジュエリー制作よりも仏具などの制作がメイン。チベット仏教の熱心な信者が多いお国柄のせいか、仏具などの製品の需要もかなりあるようにみうけられました。

技術を習得した後にきちんと生計を立てていける環境があることも、若い子たちが伝統技術を習得し、ひいては自分たちの文化を守り継ぐという素晴らしいサイクルを生み出すのだなあと実感しました。

Also, I was impressed by the studio that many young people worked hard.

In fact, the Mongolian goldsmith's studio  is mainly the production of Buddhist tools etc. than jewelry production.

Due to the country that many Tibetan Buddhist enthusiastic believers believe, there seemed to be considerable demand for products such as Buddhist products.

I realized that the young people acquire traditional techniques and create a wonderful cycle of protecting their own culture by having an environment where we can earn a living properly after acquiring skills.
