HP's Pavilion dv6-6091nr gives their Envy series a run in the performance department but at a more affordable price. For just $999, it comes with a new Intel quad core processor, 6GB memory and a whopping terabyte of storage space. It even features an AMD graphics processor for gaming on the side. There are still some minor flaws with the system including the derth of applications that swamp users and the lack of a Blu-ray drive that would have rounded out a excellent media focused laptop.

now, the Pavilion dv6-6091nr is no slouch in the performance department. Thanks to the new Intel 2011 processor lineup, it now features a Core i7-2630QM quad core processor. In addition, HP includes 6GB of DDR3 memory over the more typical 4GB. These two items allow the system to handle intensive tasks or multitasking better than many other laptops in the $1000 price range. It even comes with a brushed aluminum finish that gives it a much nicer feel than most but still not quite up to the level of the Envy series.
If you need lots of storage space in your laptop, then HP has you covered with the Pavilion dv6-6091nr. Most laptops ship with around 500GB of storage space but HP has elected to use one of the latest capacity drives that doubles this to 1TB of space. This really puts it on the same playing field as many desktop PCs when it comes to the amount of applications, data and media files that can be stored on the laptop. The drive does spin at a slower rate but the higher density does allow it to have a decent level of performance. It would have been nice to see HP include a Blu-ray drive with this model but they instead use a more typical dual-layer DVD that also supports burning labels directly to LightScribe compatible media.
One thing that still hasn't changed much in the Pavilion dv6 lineup over the years is the display. The 15.6-inch panel is pretty much what has been seen in past models with a relatively modest 1366x768 resolution and glossy coatings. Colors and brightness are good but viewing angles do suffer a bit on the vertical viewing angles. Powering the graphics is the new generation of AMD Radeon HD 6570 graphics processor with 1GB of memory. This is a mid-range processor in their lineup that gives it modest 3D performance that will allow for PC gaming up to the display resolution without too much problem.
The battery pack included with the Pavilion dv6-6091nr is a standard six-cell pack that features a 55WHr capacity. In DVD playback tests, the laptop was able to run for three and a quarter hours before going into standby mode. With more typical usage, this should yield somewhere between four and a half and five hours which is below HP's claim of five and three quarter hours. Still, this is a bit higher than many consumer laptops that feature six cell battery packs.
HP is one of the companies that has gotten a lot of flack for their trackpad design that integrates the buttons. HP thankfully moved away from the integrated button design to a more traditional one with individual right and left buttons. This is a great improvement even if it is a step backwards in design. They keyboard is a full sized chiclet or isolated design that is very comfortable to use.
A lot software is included with HP's laptops that can be both good and bad. It means that you will likely find just about any application on the system you might need. The downside is that there are a lot of programs installed on the system that you will probably never use that take up storage space and more importantly memory. It is generally advised new owners spend some time to clean out unwanted programs.
