全米ナンバー1を決めるNCAAトーナメント。
レギュラーシーズンの成績とカンファレンストーナメントの結果から64校が選ばれ、Sweet16、Elite 8と駆け上がり、地区優勝(計4地区)をしたチームが決勝進出をかけたFinal 4のゲームに臨みます。
昨年準優勝をしたMSUですが、期待されていたまでの力は発揮できずにレギュラーシーズンを終え(それでも十分強いけど)、NCAAトーナメントではベストプレイヤーのPGがアキレス腱断裂でアウトという不運も重なり、磐石というには程遠い、ブザービーターやOTの試合の末にたどり着いたFinal 4。
あいにくの天気だけど(あまり関係ないか)、盛り上がりは十分。
街の新聞は特集だらけだし、スポーツバーはごった返すことでしょう。
MSUのシンボルである銅像には、上に書いたPGのユニフォームが着せてありました(写真撮っておけばよかった)。
キャンパスには、試合中や前後の行動で警察のお世話にならないように、という大学からの張り紙が溢れております。
先日は、ヘッドコーチのTom Izzoから全学生あてにメールが届きました。
