advance to Eastern League playoffs
Entering with a twogame lead over the Sea Dogs for the final playoff spot for the Eastern League Eastern Division Series, Trenton squashed Portland hopes Saturday with a resounding 80 victory in the first game of the doubleheader to advance to the postseason.
Trenton took the nightcap, 42, to complete the sweep.
Shane Greene (84) went the distance, allowing just three hits while walking two and fanning five. Tyler Austin, who was activated off the disabled list prior to the game, doubled in Gary Sanchez (walk) and scored on Carmen Angelini fielder choice for 20 lead in the second inning.
The Thunder piled on three more runs off Miguel Pena (11) in their next atbat. Mason Williams singled and trotted home on Ramon Flores triple. Flores waltz home on Jose Pirela 10th homer of the season.

Flores (single) was aboard when Kyle Roller smacked his 17th homer of the season of Terry Doyle (16) for the 20 firstinning lead. In the third, Brian Hartline Black Jersey Francisco Arcia, Flores and Pirela each doubled. Pat Venditte (12) notched the win in relief.
Danny Burawa allowed one hit over two innings with a walk and two strikeouts for his fourth save.
As noted, outfielder Austin came off the disabled list. Austin, who turns 22 next week, had been on the DL since July 13 with a right wrist injury and missed 47 games. In 81 games with Trenton this season, Austin was hitting .254 with six home runs and 39 RBIs. He went 1for3 with a run and an RBI in his return.
